Warframe is a free-to-play co-operative action game in which you play a Tenno, a warrior controlling biomechanical suits called Warframes, across a solar system of factions at war.
Combat is third-person and unusually fast. Movement chains bullet jumps, slides and wall latches into near-continuous traversal, and each Warframe carries four abilities that define a playstyle — invisibility, crowd control, damage amplification, healing. Missions are short, squad-based and endlessly repeatable, which is the loop the whole game is built on.
Its defining characteristic is scale. Over a decade of updates has added open-world zones, space combat in customisable ships, an extensive crafting economy, and story quests that shift the game's tone considerably. New players arrive into something genuinely large, and the community consensus is to follow the star chart and the main quests rather than trying to see everything at once.
The free-to-play model is notably generous: virtually every Warframe, weapon and item can be earned through play. Platinum, the premium currency, mostly buys time and cosmetics, and can itself be traded between players for in-game items.
Free on Windows, with cross-platform play and progression across PC, consoles and mobile.
Digital Extremes has developed and self-published Warframe since 2013, running it as a continuously updated live service with regular major expansions and an annual community event.
