Counter-Strike 2 is the current build of Valve's tactical shooter, rebuilt on the Source 2 engine. Two teams of five alternate between attack and defence across short rounds, buying weapons and utility from money earned in the previous round — economy management matters as much as aim.
The Source 2 rebuild brought sub-tick movement and shooting, volumetric smoke grenades that react to gunfire and explosions, and reworked lighting on the classic map pool. It is free to play on Windows through Steam, with optional Prime status and a cosmetic skin market.
Valve has developed and operated the Counter-Strike series since acquiring the original mod in 2000, and updates CS2 directly through Steam.
